A remembrance was held at Arlington National Cemetery on Wednesday to mark the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy and Kenny Chesney attended and performed “This Land is Your Land.” (VIDEO below)

Of all who delivered the words of Robert Kennedy at Arlington cemetery on Wednesday, 50 years after his assassination, surely none felt them as intimately as John Lewis.

He read from the speech – an unscripted plea for love, wisdom, justice and compassion for black and white – that he personally witnessed Kennedy give in Indianapolis on the night that Martin Luther King was shot.

“It was very, very moving,” he told the Guardian. “From time to time you have what I call an executive session with yourself. I said to myself that evening: ‘We still have Bobby.’ Two months later, he was gone.”

Now a Democratic congressman from Georgia, Lewis was among readers and speakers including former president Bill Clinton, the House minority leader, Nancy Pelosi, and 18-year-old gun safety campaigner Emma González at the hour-long memorial service in bright sunshine. Country singer Kenny Chesney sang This Land Is Your Land and the American University Gospel Choir performed The Battle Hymn of the Republic, a favourite of Kennedy’s.

Listen to “Song For The Saints” Title Track

Kenny Chesney has released the title track for his upcoming album ‘Song for the Saints’:

“Song for the Saints” opens softly, with the strums of an acoustic guitar as Chesney sings, “Long before a boat anchored the harbor / Long before steel drums filled the breeze / God lifted these islands from the ocean / They stood strong for centuries / So it’s fitting that they were named after men with golden halos / ‘Cause angels don’t give in just ’cause a little wind blows …” Chesney owned a home on the island of St. John, which Hurricane Irma left devastated in the late summer and early fall of 2017; he was inspired to write Songs for the Saints after seeing firsthand how residents of the Virgin Islands came to together after Irma and Hurricane Maria.

“There’s so much to say, and so much music on this record. Knowing where to start was hard and easy, because this is the song that really holds everything together,” Chesney says in a press release. “It’s a tribute to those islands and their unstoppable spirit. Even as people were coming off the islands — some just to not tax the limited resources — so many of my friends were digging in, trying to figure out what needed to be done and getting on to the work of clearing debris, creating habitable space for those staying and reminding all of us how Island Strong they all are.”

Chesney Saved 1,000 Dogs’ Lives

Thanks to his Love for Love City foundation, Kenny Chesney’s efforts resulted in 1,000 dogs’ lives being saved:

The recent hurricane season wroght devastation on the British and U.S. Virgin Islands. A successive set of hurricanes, Irma and Maria, led to thousands being evacuated and displaced, and, sadly, thousands of pets were left behind as their families were forced to flee the storms.

Well, if you know anything about Kenny Chesney, you’d know this is something he would not stand for.

And he didn’t.

Thanks to his foundation, Love for Love City, over 1,000 lives were saved, as animals were rescued, treated, and rehabilated, and are now available for adoption at Big Dog Ranch Rescue. And Kenny didn’t just lend his fame to the cause, or put his face on a human-interest story for the exposure; he actually paid for the planes and the boats to transport the animals to the mainland.

Says Lauree Simmons, Founder and President of Big Dog Ranch Rescue, “We are just so appreciative that he jumped in to help us, because without Love for Love City and Kenny Chesney…we wouldn’t of been able to save these innocent lives.”

Kenny Chesney has released a music video for his latest single “Get Along”:

Directed by Shaun Silva and filmed largely amid the citizens of Chesney’s No Shoes Nation, the video captures a sunny spectacle of good times as fans party outside Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium – the first stop of his 2018 Trip Around the Sun Tour. Shots of mobile tiki bars and parking lot beach parties are mixed in with impromptu performances, including one from the deck of a pontoon boat towed out into the crowd.

With its rolling banjo riff and sing-along ready chorus, “Get Along” is the optimistic first single from Chesney’s seventeenth studio album, Songs for the Saints – a project the superstar says was inspired by the way his friends and neighbors in the Virgin Islands bounced back after Hurricane Irma in 2017.

Kenny Chesney announced today that his new album will be called ‘Songs for the Saints’ and will be released on July 27th. From Rolling Stone:

Consisting of 12 songs and co-produced by Chesney with longtime collaborator Buddy Cannon, Songs for the Saints is Chesney’s first project with his new record label Blue Chair/Warner Bros. Nashville, following more than 20 years of working with Sony or BMG imprints. Chesney co-wrote five of the set’s new tunes, drawing ideas from his firsthand experiences with the devastation and ensuing recovery effort in the Virgin Islands after Hurricane Irma.

“This is not a literal record,” Chesney says in a release. “But it is an album about the refuges we all have, how temporary life is and the way we navigate to better places, dig in and face the destruction.”

The album’s first single “Get Along” is out now, hinting at the positive vibes Chesney alludes to in his description of the project, but the complete track listing and songwriter information have yet to be revealed.

And more from The Boot:

“So much has happened since I went off the road in 2016. And all of it, in one way or another, has ended up on this record,” Chesney says in a press release. “It’s special to me because of what it says – to me, and for me – about life, the world around us, how fragile it all can be and about somehow still finding the best parts of you, and moving towards them.”

Chesney has spent the last few months recording Songs for the Saints; he wrote or co-wrote five of its tracks. Fans can expect to hear some songs inspired by the destruction in the Virgin Islands during Hurricane Irma in the fall of 2017; Chesney owned a house in St. John that was leveled by the storm.
