Chesney’s goal isn’t muscle. “I don’t go in here and try to bench-press 200 pounds,” says the cover boy of the June issue of Men’s Health, his first major men’s magazine cover.

But he can do 300 pushups in 10 minutes.

He says he just wants to maintain energy for his two-hour concerts in summer humidity. “You think you’re sprinting on this treadmill,” he says. “When I’m up there it’s like I’m at a constant sprint at a 15 level. But the thing you have onstage that you don’t have in the gym is adrenaline.”

Chesney’s trainer, Daniel Meng of MUV Fitness Coaching in Nashville, has worked with the singer for more than a decade. Meng says their training plan starts in January with total-body conditioning and ramps up as they get closer to tour time, when Meng tacks on 15 minutes of high-intensity interval training to the end of a 45-minute strength-training session.

“It’s a very intense workout routine usually reserved for athletes,” Meng says, “but Kenny has a certain standard he holds himself to when putting on a show, and it’s my job to get him there.”

Chesney also closely monitors his diet, he tells Men’s Health.

“Growing up in East Tennessee, everything you do revolves around food,” he says. He doesn’t eat many dairy products, hasn’t touched salt in 10 years, hasn’t had bread “in a while.” He watches what he eats during the week, but allows Sunday to be a cheat day.

He adds, “I’ve never abused my body with drugs. I’ve never smoked. But I will say that I’ve probably been overserved a lot. You can’t spend 19 years on the road and not have a few drinks.”

The song’s video was directed by Kenny’s longtime collaborator and friend Shaun Silva. They filmed it off the coast of Florida and while the “Come Over” video hasn’t been released yet, Shaun shared a few details about their latest collaboration.

“’Come Over’ is the most intimate journey I’ve captured of Kenny in the 10 years we’ve been making music videos together,” Shaun said. “It’s clear within the first five seconds of this video that Kenny is committed to his character in the video and was more than willing to open up to the vulnerabilities associated with this tortured love story. The music video was finished in black-and-white, delivering a strikingly timeless and cinematic result.”

Among those set to rock Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena during the 11th CMT Awards ceremony on June 6 are Carrie Underwood, who is going into country’s big night with five nominations.

Other performers set to appear, as announced Monday morning, are fellow nominees Brad Paisley, Kenny Chesney, Little Big Town, Zac Brown Band.

The race is a signature event of the Brees Dream Foundation, which was founded by New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees and wife Brittany. This year, the event partnered with the Just Keep Livin Foundation, founded by Matthew McConaughey and fiancée Camila Alves.

Of the show Chesney said, “We’ve been in tour rehearsals for weeks now so it was great for us to get on stage and feel the energy and feedback from the crowd. Tonight was all about playing music to help celebrate this great event. People in this town love music and helping out their neighbor and I was glad to be a part of it.”

The intimate setting of the House of Blues allowed for some very special moments. A one of kind auction item allowing the highest bidder to sing on stage with Kenny raised $10,000. The two sang his # 1 hit, “Somewhere With You.” The night ended with Drew Brees and Matthew McConaughey uniting with Chesney on stage for an encore performance of Chesney’s gridiron anthem, “Boys of Fall.” “Kenny has been a dear friend and always expressed interest in working with the foundation. This is such a wonderful way to end the race and his support means the world to us,” said Brees and McConaughey.

“Yesterday’s rehearsal with Tim and I and our bands was as electric and exciting as we anticipated,” said Kenny, the man with nine summers of playing to crowds of more than one million a year. “It’s been a long time since we’ve played on stage together and the chemistry and excitement is just so natural. It’s going to be a dream come true to have our years of friendship come together on stage for what will be one unpredictable, loud, hell of a summer, and I can’t wait,” Kenny continued.

The 3+ hour working rehearsal found the friends working out songs for the tour, which kicks off June 2 in Tampa, FL.

Joining Chesney’s touring band is Kenny Greenberg, the Academy of Country Music’s 2012 “Guitarist of the Year” and a veteran Nashville session musician who has previously collaborated with Bob Seger, Willie Nelson, and Etta James.

After moving to Nashville at age 21, Greenberg began writing, producing, and recording for artists in a wide range of genres, including folk, gospel, pop, and country. Between producing several GRAMMY-winning and Oscar-nominated songs, Greenberg has frequently collaborated with Chesney, including on his upcoming album, ‘Welcome To The Fishbowl’ (June 19, BNA Records) and 2010′s ‘Hemingway’s Whiskey’ (BNA Records).

“Kenny is one of the best guitarists out there today, period,” Chesney said. “He’s been a great friend and collaborator over the years, right through ‘Welcome To The Fishbowl,’ and it’s going to be amazing to have him at the party each night this summer.”

Tim recalls writing songs with Kenny and Tracy Lawrence during his early days in Nashville. While Tim was pursuing a recording contract, he says buddy Kenny’s focus was on penning songs for other artists.

“Yeah, we wrote. I don’t remember any of it but we wrote,” Tim says. “I was actually performing some of the songs Kenny was writing. Back then, Kenny, Tracy and I would run around together and I never thought of Kenny wanting to be an artist. I don’t think he ever said much about wanting that. I think he was concentrating on songwriting back then. And he’s a really good songwriter, by the way.”

Though Tim tends to rely on top-notch Nashville songwriters for his hit songs, he says there are still shelved songs out there with his co-writing credit on them.

“Feel Like a Rock Star” is the video that almost wasn’t. Between the crazy busy schedules of Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney, there just wasn’t enough time to put one together. But then Chesney had an idea: Find a few hours — and an airplane hangar — and film a little bit of a tour warm-up.

I talked to the director of this tour-rehearsal-in-a-hangar video, Shaun Silva, Tuesday (April 24), and he told me what Chesney and McGraw were like on that set in a Nashville-area hangar.

“Both of them just draw you in,” he said. “Both of them captivate you in different ways. Kenny is all over the stage. He really is an artist who puts a lot of passion and energy and drive into all his performances, almost like an athlete. And Tim has a presence that just pulls you in. He’s not going to be the guy running around the stage, but he will absolutely captivate you.” Silva said the video shows you both sides to each superstar, which I can’t help but think will be exactly what fans see on their Brothers of the Sun tour.
