A month ago we told you that Kenny Chesney was on Twitter with the username @chesneyofficial. Though there are still no tweets from Kenny or his people, we may be a step closer as they’ve taken over the @kennychesney username.

If you were already following @chesneyofficial then you will automatically be following @kennychesney as Twitter simply made the name change with all other things staying the same.

Kenny Chesney Is Now On Twitter

Thousands of people around the world are joining Twitter each day and you can now add Kenny Chesney to the list. The official Chesney Twitter account is twitter.com/kennychesney.

It will mainly be Kenny’s inner circle doing the tweeting as Kenny is a very busy man, but following him on Twitter will give you an inside look into the tour and the man himself. It’s a great tool for celebrities because they can send messages directly to fans and bypass the filter of the media.

You’ve no doubt heard of Twitter by now, but are you not sure what exactly it is? Here’s how it’s described by Wikipedia:

Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read other users’ updates known as tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 bytes in length. Updates are displayed on the user’s profile page and delivered to other users who have signed up to receive them. Senders can restrict delivery to those in their circle of friends (delivery to everyone being the default). Users can send and receive updates via the Twitter website, SMS, RSS (receive only), or through applications on their computer and cell phones.

Apps are available for most smartphones, including BlackBerrys (I recommend UberTwitter) and iPhones.

It was another stellar year for Kenny Chesney in 2008. 14 stadium shows, over a million tickets sold, several awards, and a new girlfriend all contributed to Chesney’s enormous success.

• Chesney turned 40 in March, and many celebs attended his birthday party in Nashville, including Roger Clemens, Junior Seau, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Jennifer Nettles, Dierks Bentley, and Kix Brooks
• Joins the board of Plan!t Now
• In November it was reported that Chesney has been dating former Miss Tennessee Amy Colley for a few months
• In multiple interviews, Chesney opened up about his marriage and annulment from Renee Zellweger

Sports

• In July, Chesney threw out the first pitch at Fenway Park before the Red Sox – Yankees game
• Also in July, Chesney visited the White House and sang the national anthem at the first ever White House Tee Ball All Star Game
• In August, the New Orleans Saints invited Chesney to practice with them for a day at training camp
• In October, Chesney appeared on ESPN’s College Gameday at Vanderbilt in Nashville

Other

• No Shoes Radio launches on XM Satellite Radio in July
• In September, it was reported that Chesney was developing his own rum
