Kenny Chesney will hit Vegas again this weekend for a 2-night set and luckily for us fans he’s bringing us into the show even if we aren’t there in person. No Shoes Radio will broadcast Friday night’s show live, just like Chesney did back in May.
“I pretty much shredded my voice the second night,” says Chesney. “We got up onstage in Vegas, and it was feeling and sounding so good, we didn’t wanna go home – and because it’s Vegas, you know, you really don’t have to. We broadcast the first show because we thought people would like it – and the feedback was so great, we figured why not do it again?”
“I won’t say we’re the Grateful Dead or even Phish or Widespread Panic, but when we go off the set list and into the land of ‘I love that song, let’s play it…,’ things can go all kinds of crazy places. We all love music so much – and know so many songs, we can do bluegrass, we can do Van Halen and anything in between. It’s what makes these shows fun for us… So I figured we might as well put the show out there for the fans to listen to wherever they are one more time.”
Tune in for the pre-show with Jon and Tambo at 10 pm EDT and then hang around for the show at 11 EDT.
Tune into No Shoes Radio tonight at 8pm CDT for a special songwriters tribute to Kenny Chesney. Tambo and Jon Anthony will go live from the Hard Rock in downtown Nashville at 7pm for the pre-show festivities.
Hit songwriters Mac McAnally, Craig Wiseman, Brett James, Neil Thrasher, Wendell Mobley, and Casey Beathard will tell stories about how their songs were cut by Kenny Chesney. The man himself though won’t be there… he’s outta town getting some R&R:
“There’s a point where I just can’t do everything,” Chesney admits. “The idea of a year off was to get a mental break… but then you have projects, be it the 3-D movie, making this record or something we’ll be announcing shortly… and it’s June, and you’ve not stopped for a second. I was joking that getting back out on tour next summer not only gets me back out with my fans, but I’ll get some rest…
“But that doesn’t mean I don’t hate I’m not in town this week… and I’m honored that some of the best songwriters I’ve ever heard – and have had the pleasure to work with – agreed to get together for my fans and do something a little special. This is kinda like the way, when I’m lucky, I get to hear the songs, and they’re gonna share it with all the fans – with the money going to Musicians on Call, which gets music to critically ill children who’re too sick to even leave their beds.”
On Saturday night Kenny Chesney will play the finale of the BamaJam Music & Arts Festival in Enterprise, Alabama. It’s the third music festival of the year for Chesney (he played Baton Rouge last weekend and a Houston festival in March).
Chesney will take the stage late, at 10:30 pm. Other acts on Saturday at the festival include Jake Owen, Gretchen Wilson, and Rodney Atkins.
No Shoes Radio won’t be at the show but you can catch them today at the Hooters of Pelham at 5:00 pm. They’ll have lots of NSR prizes, including the special, limited-edition Kenny Chesney CDs and a pair of tickets to Kenny’s show on Saturday.
As always, if you attend the show, please pass along the set list to us.
Kenny Chesney heads south this weekend to the bayou… Bayou Country Superfest that is, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The music festival is packing some of the biggest names in country music over two days at LSU Tiger Stadium.
On Saturday, Gloriana, David Nail, Kellie Pickler, Keith Urban, and Taylor Swift perform. Then on Sunday, Justin Moore, Jake Owen, Jason Aldean, Brooks & Dunn, and Kenny Chesney will perform. Chesney is scheduled to perform around 8:30 pm.
This is Kenny’s second festival of the year. Back in March he played at Rodeo Houston in Houston, Texas. Next weekend he’ll head to BamaJam in Enterprise, Alabama. Two more Las Vegas shows are on tap for July and then a few other festivals will round out the sparse 2010 tour.
Be sure to listen to No Shoes Radio on Sunday from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Jon and Tambo will be broadcasting live alongside 101.5 WYNK. If you’re going to the show, find NSR at the SuperFest Fan Fest area in Lot A to win some gear and other great prizes from WYNK.
And as always, we rely on you to get us the set list for the show. So if you attend, please help us out and e-mail the set list. Thanks!
According to The Country Vibe, several of the songwriters who’ve written Kenny’s biggest hits will come together for a tribute show to him that will raise money for Musicians On Call (MOC), a nonprofit organization that brings live and recorded music to the bedsides of patients in healthcare facilities in Nashville and across the country.
Hit songwriters Mac McAnally, Craig Wiseman, Brett James, Neil Thrasher, Wendell Mobley, and Casey Beathard will tell us how their songs were cut by Kenny Chesney. The special show will be broadcast live on No Shoes Radio.
The 4th Annual Songwriters Series will take place at the Hard Rock Cafe in Nashville on Thursday, June 10th (during CMA Fest week). Tickets are available now here.
Update – Here’s more from Kenny on the tribute:
“It’s amazing the way all of those writers understand where I come from, who I am, the things that matter to me,” says the man who’s penned hits of his own “Beer In Mexico,” “I Go Back” and “Out Last Night,” as well as Rascal Flatt’s multiple week #1 “Take Me There” and David Nail’s rising “Turning Home.” “When you find a song that touches you like theirs have touched me, well, you know those are the songs that’re gonna connect — and I love the fact that those songwriters get to see their songs have life in Nashville during the week when all the fans come to town.”
“These songwriters are awesome singers and performers in their own right. That they can come together like this — and help raise money for something as worthwhile as Musicians on Call, which provides recorded music and bedside performances for people too sick to participate in music any other way — well, that’s the power of what songs can do.”
“These guys have written hits for everybody: Tim McGraw, Rascal Flatts, George Strait, Gary Allen, Reba McEntire, Carrie Underwood, Faith Hill, Jimmy Buffett, Brooks & Dunn and so many people,” says Chesney. “If you wanna hear a whole lot of why country music sounds the way it does, hear the songs from the writers’ mouths — and help a really good cause — this is a great way to do it.”
