Chesney Reflects on Loss of Jonathan Demme

If you’re aware of who Jonathan Demme is, it’s probably as the director for movies like ‘The Silence of the Lambs’ and ‘Philadelphia,’ but he also directed the Kenny Chesney production “American Express Unstaged” in 2012. Demme passed away on Wednesday:

“Jonathan Demme understood how to capture music on film in a way that kept the heart and the energy intact,” Chesney tells Rolling Stone about working with the legendary filmmaker. Demme died on Wednesday (April 26) from cancer and heart disease. He was 73.

“I learned so much watching him work when he shot our show in Wildwood, N.J., about songs I already knew — and his love for how music looks when it’s being played live has stayed with me,” Chesney adds.

The country star’s Unstaged show was live-streamed on YouTube from Wildwood Beach, N.J., and reached people globally, but even more impressive, 20,000 fans showed up to see the concert in person. Chesney, a 2017 Country Jam headliner, performed almost 30 songs from his expansive catalog, including classics like “You and Tequila,” “Somewhere With You” and his early hit “She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy.” The release of the film was in partnership with the launch of Chesney’s 2012 album, Welcome to the Fishbowl, which topped Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart and includes the two Top 10 singles “Come Over” and “El Cerrito Place.”

Chesney Donating 10,000 Copies of “The Boys of Fall” to High Schools

In an effort to inspire young athletes both on and off the field, Kenny Chesney is offering a free DVD copy of ‘Boys of Fall,’ his 90-minute documentary about the lasting, positive impact high school football has on players throughout their lives, to high schools and high school football coaches around the US.

In the documentary, Chesney interviews dozens of football’s most successful commentators, coaches and players, including Joe Namath, Peyton Manning, Tony Dungy and Nick Saban, but the focus of the film is truly on life lessons learned by all who participate, not just those who go on to future football success.

“Kenny played high school football, and he feels the lessons learned on the field like hard work, humility and trust are carried over into everyday life,” says Chesney’s manager Clint Higham. “He wants to help inspire future generations with the same passion he feels.”

The first 10,000 schools to mail a letter on school letterhead requesting the documentary by December 31, 2010 will receive a copy of the DVD. One DVD is available per high school. Letters should be sent to:

Kenny Chesney
P.O. Box 121895
2006 Acklen Ave
Nashville, TN 37212

Chesney’s hope is that the documentary will inspire students as much as he was during his high school playing days and when he made the film, and that they take away from their playing experience lessons that helped Chesney become one of hardest working and most successful artists in music today. The DVD will be able to live on with teams or in school libraries for future generations to enjoy.

If you’d like to buy a copy of the documentary, you can get it at Walmart.com for $11.88.

Kenny Chesney’s first documentary, “The Boys of Fall”, hits stores today.

The 90-minute long DVD contains bonus features, behind the scenes footage, the “making of” the documentary, and director/producer commentary.

“Boys of Fall” is a football documentary about life. Executive Producer and Country Superstar, Kenny Chesney began shooting footage and football interviews for his new single “The Boys of Fall” in fall 2009. After shooting footage of friend and New Orleans Saints’ coach Sean Payton at his high school alma mater, Chesney decided to expand the video into a full documentary film. Over the next several months he filmed youth football games, high school football games & locker room speeches as well as interviews with football greats. Interviews include Troy Aikman, Bobby Bowden, Mack Brown, Tony Dungy, Brett Favre, John Madden, Peyton Manning, Joe Namath, Sean Payton, Bill Parcells, Nick Saban and Jim Tressel. After an introduction that includes Payton speaking to his old high school team in the locker room before a big game, it depicts how those who do not go on to long, storied careers in the NFL, like high school wide receiver Chesney, the lessons learned on the field help to shape who they are today.

You can order the DVD from Walmart.com now for $11.88.
