Chesney Helps 100 Dogs Find New Homes after Hurricanes

Kenny Chesney is helping dozens of dogs find new homes after hurricanes ravaged the Virgin Islands:

It was a very Floridian welcome when dozens of soon-to-be adopted dogs arrived Thursday evening to Palm Beach International airport from the U.S. Virgin Islands. Rain showers poured around 5:45 p.m., soaking volunteers and the media as they welcomed the lovey bunch.

But a little rain is nothing to these animals. They survived two major hurricanes, Irma and Maria, this year.

This was the first group of a total of 100 dogs that were rescued by Big Dog Ranch Rescue (BDRR) along with Victory Air, country music star Kenny Chesney’s “Love for Love City,” whose home in the St. Johns was destroyed this hurricane season.

These dogs were homeless, abandoned or stranded on the islands after the two hurricanes wiped out most of the infrastructures. Most human families were evacuated and could only bring themselves, leaving their pets behind.

“Our pets are like our family and right now our family is hurting, said Laureen Simmmons, founder and President of Big Dog Ranch Rescue. “It’s a struggle for people to survive the conditions and nearly impossible for our dogs and cats so we are working with several groups to do the most we can to sustain life during this difficult time.”

The dogs were then to be transported to their designated shelters in Virginia, South Carolina, Orlando and Palm Beach County. They’re looking for forever homes.

He said in the interview that he’s sent his private plane down with water and dog food.

Country singer Kenny Chesney sent a private plane this morning heading for the US Virgin Islands stocked with water bottles and dog food for the 30 people and 10 dogs that rode out the storm in the basement of his home in St. John.

Mr. Chesney, whose brick and stone home with hurricane proof windows was destroyed, commented on the strength of the community in an interview with HLN.

“These people are really hard workers and they’ve got great hearts, and it’s hard to rock them even with a hurricane of this size,” he said. Chesney has started a fundraising campaign called Love for Love City Foundation. He is also planning a concert to raise aid money for the rebuilding process. In the HLN interview he expressed his affection for the community, saying:“Yes, we will rebuild, and we will recover.”

Kenny was on HLN network where he talked about the destruction on St. John, where he has a home that suffered a lot of damage. Listen to Kenny’s interview below:

Kenny’s Message on Hurricane Irma Devastation

Kenny Chesney has spent a lot of time in the islands that have been devastated by Hurricane Irma in recent days. He posted this message on Thursday:

As daylight is hitting the islands, and we’re really getting a sense of how bad this all is…
I don’t know what to say. I’ve never been in war, but the devastation, the people’s faces in a place I know by heart have left me feeling helpless. It’s total devastation.

These are people who live off the sea, who depend on it. They live right there, and it’s gone. Most everyone’s displaced. They are frightened, confused, and they don’t know where help is going to come from. Those lives have changed and will never be the same. Those small islands are hard to get to and they rely on each other to get through what life hands them. For all of them, though, they’ve been where I’ve leaned for emotional and creative support for fifteen years because they are so generous.

I don’t know right now how we’re going to do this. But I want to help. I want to enlist my friends to figure out the best ways to make a difference, to help in whatever ways, small or larger, that we can. I’m blessed with so many great people… We’re already talking, trying to figure out how to get in there. And I know the No Shoes Nation is mighty. They’ve dug in before and made a difference. I have a feeling once we have our plans in the place, they’ll be there again.

Give us a few days to figure this out. Pray/send good thoughts to everyone who’s been affected or is in the path of Hurricane Irma. This is unlike anything they’ve ever seen from St Maartens to St Barths to Puerto Rico then the Caribbean and onto Key West.

Be safe. Tell someone how much you care. Remember to Spread the Love. More Soon,
Kenny
