Kenny Chesney has the number one country album and the number two album across all genres with his latest offering ‘Cosmic Hallelujah’.

It’s not a holiday album, but it must feel a lot like Christmas to Kenny Chesney as Cosmic Hallelujah, debuts at No. 1 on Billboard’s country albums chart — and at a solid No. 2 on the Billboard 200 all-genres list.

Luke Bryan’s “Move” holds its top spot for the second week on Billboard’s country airplay rankings.

According to Nielsen SoundScan, Cosmic Hallelujah sold 79,485 copies its first week out. Also new among the Top 5 albums this week are Brett Eldredge’s Glow (No. 2 on sales of 14,080 units) and Cole Swindell’s Down Home Sessions III (No. 5 with 10.708 units scanned).

Chesney Receives BMI President’s Award

Kenny Chesney picked up the first of two major awards in as many days on Tuesday night in Nashville:

Chesney was honored as a songwriter by the performing rights organization BMI, which gave him the BMI President’s Award. On Wednesday, he’ll be honored as one of the genre’s top entertainers when he is given the Pinnacle Award at the 50th annual Country Music Association Awards.

“I don’t know if in my whole life I have ever felt so much love in a room,” Chesney told the crowd of songwriters, publishers and singers.

During the event, Keith Urban performed Chesney’s song, “I Go Back,” starting the song off with just an acoustic guitar before ending it with a ripping electric guitar solo.

Urban talked about his early years opening for Chesney on tour when Urban had just gotten out of rehab for drug and alcohol abuse.

“We had a heart-to-heart about what I was going through and you were just a friend right from that moment and it’s only stayed that way ever since,” Urban said. “Brother, I love you.”

Eric Church performed “Anything But Mine,” and longtime songwriter Dean Dillon performed Chesney’s first ever single, “The Tin Man,” a song Chesney wrote by himself.

“We’ve talked very much about what Kenny has done and he should be honored for that,” Church said. “.. What he has done is great, but what he is doing is better.”

The Knoxville, Tennessee-native who broke onto the scene in the mid-1990s has 29 No. 1 country songs and sold in excess of 30 million albums. He is considered one of music’s top touring artists.

“We’ve heard a lot of people talk about me on stage and me in front of all these people,” Chesney said. “But me on stage wouldn’t be possible without my creative spirit and my creative heart, and God put a song in my heart many years ago.”

Kenny Chesney’s latest offering, Cosmic Hallelujah, is heading towards a number one debut on Billboard’s Top 200 Albums chart.

Country superstar Kenny Chesney is on track for his eighth No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart, according to industry forecasters. Sources say his latest release, Cosmic Hallelujah, could launch with over 80,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Nov. 3.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The top 10 of the new Nov. 19-dated Billboard 200 chart — where Chesney may bow at No. 1 — is scheduled to be revealed on Billboard’s websites on Sunday, Nov. 6.

Chesney has previously led the Billboard 200 with Life on a Rock (in 2013), Hemingway’s Whiskey (2010), Lucky Old Sun (2008), The Road and the Radio (2005), Be As You Are: Songs From an Old Blue Chair (2005), When the Sun Goes Down (2004) and No Shirt, No Shoes, No Problems (2002).

The 50th annual CMA Awards will be held this Wednesday, November 2nd and Kenny Chesney will receive a very prestigious award.

The singer, whose duet with Pink “Setting the World on Fire” recently topped the charts, is the 2016 recipient of the Country Music Association’s Pinnacle Award, given to an artist who has achieved global success with both ticket and record sales. So far, only two other artists have received the special award: inaugural honoree Garth Brooks in 2005 and Taylor Swift in 2013.

Chesney, who has 43 career CMA nominations and eight wins, four of them in Entertainer of the Year, won’t tour in 2017, aside from a few festival appearances.

“When I’m really busy I crave being still, and when I’m still I start to freak the hell out,” Chesney tells Rolling Stone Country.

But the break won’t last too long. He predicts a big 2018 tour.

“The second half of the year I’ll be mentally busy prepping for ’18, but the first half I’m going to be doing some shows and I’m hoping to be creative in some way,” he says. “Hopefully, I’ll get to spend some more time with my family and reconnect with the people you’re not supposed to have to get reconnected to, but that is my life and that is my truth.”

Watch the CMA Awards Wednesday, November 2nd at 8/7c on ABC.

Are you ready for new Kenny Chesney music? ‘Cosmic Hallelujah’, the latest album from Kenny, hits stores today!

Be sure to tune into The Today Show and the Ellen Degeneres Show to see Kenny promote the new album.

“I’ve been blessed with some of the best songs out there, some songs written, actually, just for this album by writers whose work I’ve loved for years,” Chesney said. “When ‘Setting The World On Fire’ came together, it opened a window of time – and some songs that had come in after we were done, I didn’t have to save for the next album. Suddenly, everything was changing, and the album I’m releasing now has a lot of what made ‘Some Town Somewhere’ capture the essential part of who the No Shoes Nation is, but really takes the your-life-is-now piece of ‘The Big Revival’ and expands it.

“And there’s one very special song I’ve been holding for years called ‘Coach’ that we went in and re-cut,” said Chesney. “It really captured that song’s heart.”

Swing by your favorite store or get the album now at Amazon or iTunes.
