Grammy nominations were recently announced and Kenny Chesney and P!NK earned a nod for “Setting The World On Fire” in the Best Country Duo/Group Performance category.
“You’re kidding me,” Kenny responded, when reached somewhere on the sea. “That’s fantastic. What a thing, what news to wake up to.”
“When I heard the song, I knew it was pretty special,” Kenny continued, speaking of the two-week Country No. 1 and the Top 20 Hot AC – and still rising – single. “But when we got P!NK on there, it was something else. She captures all the emotion, all the joy of being alive, being free and in the moment – and brought everything inside the song to life. I couldn’t be happier this morning, knowing the people who vote for the GRAMMYs heard in that song all the things that I do.”
Recorded in Los Angeles, the Josh Osborne/Ross Copperman/Matt Jenkins song – ironically inspired by one of the co-writer’s own first trip to the GRAMMYs – became the second single from Kenny’s unconventional Cosmic Hallelujah. As Kenny said upon releasing the track to radio, “I knew the moment I heard this song, it was exactly the moment of life and love exploding, and everything turning Technicolor. Finding songs that are in the moment are harder, in this kind of moment, it’s almost impossible. And the idea of bringing P!NK in adds to that sense of this song is happening as we sing it. It’s funny how people respond to stuff that feels real and right now.”
The 59th annual Grammy awards will air February 12th from Los Angeles on CBS.
