Kenny Chesney has made available for listening a third song from his new album The Big Revival, and this one’s the title track.

Listen now:

“The philosophy behind putting ‘The Big Revival’ first was to set a tone,” Chesney tells “There’s things about religion that I don’t necessarily agree with or understand, but I’m a big believer in spirituality — I’ve seen songs change people, and that’s spiritual.

“But ‘The Big Revival’ is really about picking yourself up off the bottom, reclaiming your soul, restarting,” he adds. “That was everything I wanted to say to my audience — and you have to think about that, you have to think, ‘Okay, we took a year off, now what am I going to say to these people, who have been there for me for a long time?’ And the idea of ‘The Big Revival’ was it.”

Chesney Tops the Billboard Chart with “American Kids”

The debut track from Kenny Chesney’s upcoming album The Big Revival has hit number one on the Billboard Country chart! It’s Kenny’s 25th number one.

Three weeks before his album hits stores, the propulsive song about the inherent spirit of people coming of age in the flyover has topped Billboard’s Country Airplay chart – and it shows no signs of slowing down. With three rhythms, two hooks and a whole lot of imagery, “American Kids” paints a portrait of people who make their own fun, understand life is how you live it and that the small details are what it’s all about.

“When Shane (McAnally) played me the song,” Chesney says, “I knew I was going to cut it. In fact, I gave him a hard time for not playing it for me sooner. Not only is it musically so engaging, but the pictures it paints are undeniable! No matter where you’re from, there are pieces of that song that’re just who you are… and they show you at your very best. We’re all, like the song says, ‘a little messed, but we’re all alright’.”

More than a little alright. Having just played a free show for over 40,000 in FloraBama and a surprise “pop-up” show in Athens’ Georgia Theatre, Chesney marveled as both crowds gave the tongue twisting lyrics back to them like they were born singing it.

“Some songs, you just know they capture how people feel, what they think, how they are,” offers the man called “the people’s superstar” by The Los Angeles Times. “I’ve had a few like that: ‘Young’ being the first. The moments in this song are all very real, and while they’re universal, they’re anything but generic, so I think people grabbed a hold of it for that – and because of the way it moves.”

Written by Rodney Clawson, Luke Laird and Shane McAnally, “American Kids” evokes the little pink houses and born in the USA of several generations, while embodying the swept-up-in-the-moment urgency and complete abandon of today’s teens and 20-somethings.
Co-producing with longtime collaborator Buddy Cannon, The Big Revival marks Chesney’s 15th studio album. With the emphasis on great songs, pushing the boundaries without betraying who he is, The Big Revival takes Chesney’s music and lays it wide open. With its first #1 in “American Kids,” it looks like the songwriter/entertainer’s next wave is going to break ground and make his fans really happy.

Kenny Chesney Surprises Fans With An Intimate Concert At The Georgia Theatre As Part Of CMT's Instant Jam: Kenny Chesney Premiering Saturday, September 27 At 10 pm ET/PTAn evening most University of Georgia of students will be talking about for years – 4-time Country Music Association and 4-consecutive Academy of Country Music Entertainer of the Year Kenny Chesney took the stage last night at Athens’ Georgia Theatre, where he performed a surprise pop-up concert for an extremely small crowd of around 500 fans. The concert is the first installment of CMT’s new INSTANT JAM series and premieres Saturday, September 27 at 10:00 p.m., ET/PT. Each episode of INSTANT JAM features live performances, and captures all the excitement and energy as artists reveal to fans how to score tickets to an exclusive show in their area, while giving a behind-the-scenes look at the hours leading up to their concert.

With a handful of posters going up in the late morning and flyers distributed in downtown Athens yesterday, there was a frenzy to score one of the 500 wristbands allotted for the show, which went on for over two hours. With distribution at the University of Georgia’s Phi Mu sorority house, they were gone in less than 8 minutes. Chesney performed 23 songs, some he’s not played in years, hits people expected and a pair of songs from his Sept. 23 release The Big Revival, including his Top 5 “American Kids.” Throwing out the setlist, Chesney even covered Hank Williams Sr’s “Kaw Liga” and George Strait’s “Carried Away,” while Face Timing Strait on stage as he and the entire audience sang along.
