news_spurrierKenny Chesney has once again teamed up with his longtime video director Shaun Silva, this time to tell the story of legendary college football coach Steve Spurrier:

Steve Spurrier will take his turn in ESPN and the SEC Network’s “SEC Storied” series at 8 p.m. on Aug. 27 in a documentary titled, “The Believer.” The film covers Spurrier’s career as a player and coach, featuring interviews with his former players and his family, and addresses why and how Spurrier became Spurrier.

“It was a documentary they wanted to put together,” Spurrier said on Tuesday at SEC Media Days. “They spent a lot of time with my family, wife, kids, grandkids and so forth, and a lot of former players. So, hopefully, it will turn out OK.”

The trailer was released on Wednesday, a 90-second burst of Spurrier playing and coaching at Florida, Duke and South Carolina. The visor-tossing, the grin and the trophies are all well represented.

ESPN and the SEC had been discussing a Spurrier film, and once ESPN’s acclaimed “30 For 30” series began, it gained traction. A country music star provided an assist.

“There had been some talk of doing a Spurrier documentary, and when Kenny got involved, it kind of just fell together,” said Andy Billman, a producer of ESPN Films.

Kenny Chesney and Spurrier have been friends since 2007, when Chesney was performing at Colonial Life Arena and invited Spurrier on stage. Chesney, a football fan and longtime supporter of Tennessee, received a No. 7 USC jersey from Spurrier when Chesney played Williams-Brice Stadium in 2013 (No. 7 not for Jadeveon Clowney, but because it was Chesney’s number in high school).

Chesney, who also helped with a 2011 film called “The Boys of Fall” about football players across all levels, pitched his support as co-executive producer and the idea took off. “SEC Storied” covered topics such as Herschel Walker and “The Play That Changed College Football,” a recap of the 1992 SEC Championship Game in which Spurrier and his Gators were well represented, and decided to include Spurrier’s own film in its next wave.

Kenny Chesney and Jason Aldean recently hung together at a Nashville area Buffalo Wild Wings.

Jason recently posted a photo on Instagram of himself partying with Kenny. It turns out Jason just sat down at the restaurant with his girlfriend, Brittany Kerr, when he got a call from Kenny.

Jason says, “He goes, ‘Well, I’m at somewhere. We’ve been drinking margaritas all day.’ I was like, ‘Well, come over here and meet us. We just sat down. We’ll have a beer. Whatever.'”

Jason’s invitation turned to hours of drinking beer, tequila and rum once Kenny showed up.

“All I do know is, I think we ended up calling a car to take us home,” Jason says. He adds, “Kenny, he’s a funny dude, man.”

Says Jason, “He’s a good guy to kind to have there to kinda talk to about stuff and bounce ideas off of, and been there-done that kind of thing. And still, as long as he has been in the business, he still loves what he does.”

Jason just headlined stadiums in Cleveland and Cincinnati this weekend, and he expects Kenny to get back out on the concert trail in a big way in 2015, too.

Jason says with a laugh, “I know he’s taking some time off right now, and he’s, like, already over it. He’s ready to get on the road.”

Missed getting your Kenny fix this summer? Well you’ve got one shot to see him, and it’ll be free!

Dubbed the Flora-Bama-Jama, Chesney will play a beach concert Aug. 16 at The Flora-Bama, located on the state line where Orange Beach, Ala., meets Pensacola, Fla.

“I’ve been holed up making a record for the last year … and anyone who knows me knows how much I miss playing, miss the fans, but especially miss the culture of the people who love this music bring with them,” Chesney said in a statement. “Obviously, this isn’t going to be one of those huge shows we do, but it’s gonna be a long day, a whole lotta music and even more fun.”

Chesney, whose new single “American Kids” is now on country radio, explained he chose The Flora-Bama as the location for his one and only concert of the year because “to me, a place like The Flora-Bama is all about kicking back, being with your friends and not worrying about a thing. … Just hang out and be easy.”

More information on the Aug. 16 show — including how to get wristbands for access to the enclosed beach area — will be available, along with a clip from Chesney, at 7 a.m. CST Thursday at http://kennychesney.com/florabamajama

Chesney’s new album “The Big Revival,” featuring “American Kids” will be in stores Sept. 23.

This morning over at Billboard.com, Kenny Chesney unveiled the official album cover for his upcoming release “The Big Revival.”

news_thebigrevival_large

“I wanted an album cover that was surprising… Not what people expect, but that also suggests anything is possible,” Chesney explains. “That no matter where you are in your life, how tired or lost or demoralized, with a little faith and a little help, anything is possible… Because it’s all within you! Or me.

“That was the thing about that bus,” continues Chesney. “It was so far beyond coloring outside the lines, yet what is more common than a school bus? We’ve all seen them, no matter how old we are, our entire lives… and yet, when you look at that bus after we were done painting it, it was a whole new notion!”

“The Big Revival,” due out Sept. 23, has already produced a new hit for Chesney with “American Kids,” which has peaked at No. 2 on the Hot Country Songs chart in just its third week on the tally. The feel-good single will be joined by collaborations with Alison Krauss, Grace Potter and others on the follow-up to last year’s “Life on a Rock.”

“I think that that’s the thing about the songs on this record… about the attitude and energy in ‘American Kids’… it’s not the same old, it’s not what you expect,” says Chesney. “The Big Revival” will try to become Chesney’s eighth No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart upon its September release.

Kenny Chesney’s new single “American Kids” has made a strong charge up the Hot Country Songs Chart in the two weeks it’s been out:

Just in time for July 4, Kenny Chesney charges 17-6 on Hot Country Songs with “American Kids,” the chart’s top Digital Gainer. It roars 7-1 on Country Digital Songs (74,000, up 87 percent) following its first full week of retail availability. It also enters Country Streaming Songs at No. 14 (624,000, up 392 percent); its official clip premiered Monday (June 30), likely translating to even greater streaming gains next week. On Country Airplay, “Kids” climbs 27-20 (18 million, up 39 percent).

“Kids” is Chesney’s 45th Hot Country Songs top 10. Dating to his first week in the top bracket (with “Fall in Love,” June 24, 1995), he passes Tim McGraw (44) for the most top 10s among all acts in that span.
