With No Shoes Nation Tour kicking off in a little over a week, Kenny Chesney headed to Key West for a little warmup show.

A writeup on Kenny’s FB page gives details from the show:

Taking the stage just after 2:30, the man whose No Shoes Nation Tour opens at Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium on March 16 informed the crowd, “We’re gonna play some old songs, some new songs and a whole lotta songs.” Then without a missing a beat, he, guitarists Clayton Mitchell and Kenny Greenberg plus keyboardist Wyatt Beard tumbled into “Welcome To the Fishbowl,” a song that indicts gotcha culture and celebrity fixation with a few well-turned observations.

Laughing about realizing it’s the first time he’s ever sung a song that was dated, Chesney laughed, then kicked off “Guitars, Tiki Bars (& A Whole Lotta Love) with its tropical syncopations and feel good celebration of the laidback life. That theme held for three more – a sweeping “Beer In Mexico,” the bouncy “Summertime” and the exuberant “No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems.”

People were pressed belly-to-back in the completely capacity Hog’s Breath building and patio. Singing along, raising their glasses and even hoisting a few No Shoes Nation skull & crossbones flags, several of the fans had come from far away to savor the year’s first show. It was both packed with songs they knew and sang along to, and obscure album cuts that incited elation in the hardest core in the house.

Talking easily with the fans, joking about staying out all night to insure their place in the bar, asking a just engaged couple “so how’d it go last night?,” the songwriter turned the three plus hours into time spent with old friends. Reaching for requests – from the “Go Coastal” to “Out Last Night” for “the two girls from Fort Myers,” Chesney made the Hogs Breath his living room and threw a party for 5000 friends.

Indeed, it was a request for “On The Coast of Somewhere Beautiful,” that got the normally reticent artist to confess, “This is a true story… The girl actually lives in Jupiter, Florida” before embarking on the No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems album track that he’d not performed in years.
