The CMT Artists of the Year celebration was taped in Nashville Tuesday night and Kenny Chesney was among the five artists honored. The other award-winners were Jason Aldean, Taylor Swift, Brad Paisley, and Lady Antebellum.

Chesney was presented with his award by his good friend, Saints coach Sean Payton, and also by former St Louis Cardinals manager Tony LaRussa.

It was a night full of cross-pollinated moments, with host Rob Lowe, Lionel Richie, William Shatner, Joe Walsh, Gavin DeGraw, New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton, former St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa, The Avett Brothers and The All-American Rejects on hand to celebrate country’s biggest entertainers. But it was Hank Williams Jr. who turned in the night’s most buzzed about moment, leaving the stage quickly mid-song after singing his part during a duet with Aldean.

The 90-minute special will premier Dec. 13 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on CMT.
