Some controversy has erupted around the internet over a WCVB Boston story reporting that at last weekend’s show in Boston, MA Kenny Chesney confiscated a fan’s camera. One blog went as far as to call Chesney a “prick”.

Susan Mazar said the singer grabbed it while she was at this weekend’s concert in Foxborough.

Mazar said she was in the front row taking pictures, when the singer grabbed the camera from her.

Mazar said she and other fans were stunned when Chesney took the camera.

“(Chesney) was like a person in front of me and he reached down, grabs the camera, shuts it, goes down the walkway and throws it on the stage,” Mazar said.

Mazar said she did get the camera back, but the memory card, loaded with pictures of her family vacation, was missing.

Mazar told NewsCenter 5 that she was taking still pictures only of the show, not video.

Earlier in the tour Kenny was upset with people videotaping him during shows and it appeared that cameras might be banned altogether but this was not the case. Only videotaping is not allowed.

ChesneyWorld received this tweet after the Gillette show:

“I was there when the girl said kenny took her camera & to KC’s defense, she was videotaping the whole show”

Also, Erin from CountryMusicIsLove.com was interviewed by Electric Barnyard and explained that she was about 10 feet from the whole thing and that it was a video camera, not a still camera. Listen to the interview here.

It was back in may,2009 kenny chesney came up with this no camera’s allowed
policy because he does not want anyone videoing him at his concert shows. That includes cell phones with camera’s on them. This is upsetting to kenny. If he has seen this woman’s video camera it is kenny chesney’s policy to get this woman to hand the video camera to kenny and yes he does have that policy to take it from her and remove the video tape out of it.This woman was at fault,
not kenny chesney. He did the right thing.Let this be a lesson to her next time.Bring a still camera for god’s sake.

IF it is a video camera (and being 10 feet away Erin would know) then heck yeah Kenny is right in taking the video camera away from her
He has been upfront about NO videotaping and even Gillette says NO videotaping……
so the womens point is mute…..she was in the wrong.
I think Erin is right in her comment this has been BLOWN out of proportion

I saw him do the exact same thing during his Keg in the Closet tour 2 years ago. I was in the front row at Spinnakers on Panama City Beach and a girl was video taping. He motioned for her to send her camera up to him (she was about 5-6 people deep in the crowd). She passed it up, I’m sure thinking he was going to take a picture with it. Instead he opened it up, removed the tape, said “this is a no-no” and tossed the tape over to Brett Palmer his promoter. Then he passed the camera back to her. I think he has every right to do this. Afterall, it is his image and likeness (his persona is his property) and the ticket clearly states NO VIDEO. Her loss. If she were a true fan she would respect is wishes, enjoy the show and only take still shots. Just my humble and accurate opinion.

I know people aren’t going to agree with me on this, but why not just make the concerts NO CAMERAS. Period. I was in Columbus this year, and he was pissed because people were videoing/taking pictures. I suspect after all he has been through this year with cameras, that next year, it will be no cameras at all. I’ve never been a picture taker at concerts, so no big deal to me. I’m there to party and have fun, not take pictures.

I saw a picture of the camera and it is a camcorder and it does have the funtion of taking still photos, I know this because my cousin has one. I think Kenny was in the right, it looked like a video camera, he has the right to confiscate her camera, it is clearly state no video taping and she was in the front row and if she was so concerned about her family vacations pics she should have removed them from the card. The woman is just trying to get her 15 minutes of fame.

At the Seattle show I was blown away by how many people were videoing! It’s a bunch of crap! They are going to blow it for all of us who only take still pictures! If I was Kenny I would have done the same thing. Leslie I bet your right about no cameras next year!!

  • Sara

Why does he care about the videos fans are taking? He’s either a public figure or he’s not. He’d be having a hissy fit if no one was coming. Stars like this are a real turn off.

I saw the whole thing. He motioned for her to hand him the camera and she did. Boo Hoo! Tick Tock lady! Your 15 minutes of fame are OVER! And I am SO OVER THIS SUBJECT! It is bull! No videoping means no videoing. ANd like several people have said. Who can have fun and take pix anyhow! And who could stand that still shile everyone else around them is rocking out! HELOO LADY! YOU WERE STANDING TO STILL TO BE TAKING ANYTHING BUT A VIDEO!!! That’s how you got busted!

aldewitt2000,This comment is for you since i cannot contact you on the flickr
comment line.I have read your comment. You should be ashamed of yourself for making a threat and an abusive remark like you did to kenny chesney if he did take your camera away. You better think what kind of trouble you are going to be in if you do give kenny chesney a black and blue nose over this no camera
policy. You will be going to jail for an assult on a country singer that you will serve time for.Think about that. You and everyone else need to go along with this no camera policy, follow the rules or do not go to kenny chesney’s
concerts if you are going to start trouble because trouble will have you out
of these concerts.Think about that to.
