Rain didn’t stop the show this time. Kenny Chesney made good on his promise and returned to Frisco, Texas on Sunday night to play a makeup show after the May 2nd concert was canceled 50 minutes in due to rain.
There were no opening acts this time. Chesney came out around 7:30 and asked “Where was I?” and then proceeded to finish “There’s Something Sexy About The Rain”, which is what he was in the middle of playing when the first show was called off.
“It was still light out – and I can’t tell you the last time I went on before dark,” Chesney says of his free return to Dallas, “but I wanted those people to know we’d come to play! They’d been so amazing that night in the rain – and this show was for them! It was going to be one of those nights, and we were there to make some music, to let them know how much we appreciated their staying with us.”
After playing his normal set, Kenny launched into his encore by singing a string of covers like he did in Las Vegas back in April.
“15 minutes into the songs we loved, I decided to get comfortable,” said Chesney. “We’d just played ‘With or Without You,’ and I stripped off my boots and went barefoot. I wanted to feel the stage under my feet, just let it all go… and we did! ‘You Never Called Me By My Name’ and ‘Ice Cream Man,’ and three hours in, we played ‘Take It To The Limit,’ and that was that.”
Here were the songs played in the extended set:
- Take It Easy
- Gimme Three Steps
- Dixieland Delight
- The Fireman
- Last Dance with Mary Jane
- The Joker
- Three Little Birds
- Sweet Home Alabama
- Blister In The Sun
- With or Without You
- You Really Got Me Now
- Hurts So Good
- You Never Called Me By My Name
- Ice Cream Man
- Old Blue Chair
- Please Come To Boston
- Take It To The Limit
“Technically we’d fulfilled our obligation, but then there’s the moment… and the way you feel… and that was something I couldn’t forget: all those people in that horrible rain who stayed there with us. They gave us a gift I’ll never forget – so, this seems like the least we could do.”
