Did you try on Saturday morning for tickets to see Kenny Chesney at Gillette Stadium and get shut out? If so, you’re not alone. The show reportedly sold out in less than 10 minutes.
“It’s a little crazy,” said Chesney, “especially with the economy the way it is. But I think people know…and what we’ve always been about, is getting the fans away from their problems for a few hours. We can’t necessarily fix what’s wrong, but we can try to make sure that for a few hours, you forget about it. And in times like these, that’s a pretty big deal for a lotta people ’cause everybody needs a little break.”
Though the show is sold out through TicketMaster, you can still purchase tickets through reseller sites like Stubhub, TicketsNow, or eBay.
Stubhub recently released its 2008 Annual Concert Ticket Report and Kenny Chesney made a couple of their lists.
On the Top 10 Highest Grossing Tours list, Kenny Chesney’s Poets & Pirates Tour came in at number 6, which is unchanged from last year. Here’s the full 2008 list:
Kenny’s average ticket price on Stubhub for 2008 was $162, essentially unchanged from 2007 ($161). However, in 2007 Chesney played 56 North American shows compared to only 41 this year, according to Stubhub.
Tickets for the August 15th, 2009 Kenny Chesney show at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts go on sale to the general public this morning at 10 am eastern time through TicketMaster.
Last year tickets for Gillette went very fast, so be on TicketMaster a few minutes before 10 am EST for your best chance at scoring tickets. If you get shutout, tickets will still be available through reseller sites like Stubhub.
… not just a real good tan. GAC has a short article on what Kenny asked his mother for Christmast last year:
“My mom hates Christmas,” he told Nashville’s WSIX-FM. “She [really] loves Christmas, but she hates it when it rolls around, because in October, she’ll start callin’ me goin’, ‘What do you want for Christmas? ‘What do I get you for Christmas?’”
Last year’s solution was pretty simple: “I told her last year I wanted canned green beans.”
Billboard is out with its Top Country Albums of 2008, and Kenny’s two latest albums cracked the list. “Just Who I Am: Poets & Pirates” came in at number 9, and Kenny’s latest, “Lucky Old Sun”, placed 21st.
Here’s the Top 25:
The Eagles – Long Road Out Of Eden

In its seventh week on the charts, Kenny Chesney’s latest single “Down The Road” with Mac McAnally moved up four spots this week to number 14 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart.
Moving into number 1 this week is Montgomery Gentry with “Roll With Me”.

Kenny Chesney’s 2008 Poets & Pirates Tour was the sixth highest grossing tour of 2008 with $86 million, according to Billboard. Here was the top 10:
Bon Jovi – $210.6 million
Bruce Springsteen – $204.5 million
Madonna – $162 million
The Police – $150 million
Celine Dion – $91 million
Kenny Chesney – $86 million
Neil Diamond – $81.2 million
Spice Girls – $70 million
The Eagles – $56.6 million
Rascal Flatts – $55.8 million
For the overall touring industry, grosses reported to Billboard Boxscore totaled slightly less than $4 billion worldwide, the most ever for a year and up almost 13% over last year.
But global reported concert attendance is virtually flat, with 6% fewer shows. And North American concert attendance is down nearly 2%, after a nearly 20% decrease last year, continuing a troubling trend. Better news is evident on a show-by-show basis; the average box office gross in North America is up 18% and average attendance is up 6.3%, reflecting that some of the attendance decline can be attributed to a decrease in the overall show count.
Chesney is already announcing dates for 2009. See them here.
Update – Some more numbers from Billboard for Kenny’s ’08 tour:
