Interview with Caribbean Travel Magazine

Caribbean Travel Magazine has an interview up with Kenny Chesney and it delves a little deeper than most of the recent interviews that Kenny has done:

Thanks to Jimmy Buffett, most people have an idea of what “boat music” is. What does it mean to you?

It’s laid-back and acoustic. My boat playlist has a lot of singer-songwriters like Jimmy, Bob Marley, Jackson Browne and Jack Johnson. It’s the soundtrack to sitting out there and pulling a beer out of the cooler and watching the sun move across the sky. I’ll take three or four of my new songs out on the boat and watch the sunset with that music, and ask, “Does this music reflect this atmosphere? Does it speak to more people than just me?” It’s important to reflect a sense of what that life is really like, how time hangs in the balance.

Kenny Chesney’s 2008 Poets & Pirates Tour was the top grossing tour of the summer, according to Boxscore reports published by Billboard and analyzed by USA Today.

Country star Kenny Chesney – No. 2 a year ago – was the top grosser this summer, pulling in $62.7 million, followed by The Police, Tom Petty, Dave Matthews Band and Bruce Springsteen.

“The public will pay a premium to see artists they deem must-see attractions, and Chesney seems to fit that,” Pollstar editor Gary Bongiovanni says. “He has a reputation for a great live show, which leads to repeat business. It’s like Jimmy Buffett, where people see him for their annual Parrothead fix.”
